Inuit Sculpture David Ruben Piktouqun Nesik Sila Mask birchbarkbasket along with her sister ClaraThis mask, carved from beautifully hued Brazilian soapstone by David Ruben Piqtoukun in 20003, has three feathers crowning the head. Nesik represents wind and breath, and Sila represents the atmosphere, so we have a sculpture that pays tribute to those aspects of Mother Earth. The feathers, representing flight, fit the theme comfortably. The face embedded within the right eye is the spirit of the larger being. Born in the Northwest Territories of
