『The Last Son(末息子)』は、ゴールドバーグの自身の「自己形成の物語」(ビルドゥングスロマン)を 描き出すスーパーラボによる三部作のシリーズの2番目に当たる写真集。彼は自らかき集めた数々の思い出の画像を用いてこ の三部作を織り上げている。ゴールドバーグの父はキャンディの卸売店を営んでいた 人物、彼はその父の末息子であった。ゴールドバーグは写真と文章のモンタージュを通じて自らの過去を 深く遡っていく。それを通じて彼は、彼の夢とともに自らの父の夢をも辿り直すことになるのだ。コンセ プトの点で本作は、最近改訂版が出版された『Rich and Poor』(シュタイデル、2014年) -ここで彼は、子ども時代が自らの作品に与えた影響をより徹底的に検証している - からインスピレーション を受けている。
