In 1981, Philippe Starck met Jean Louis Costes, having already designed the interiors of La Main Bleue and Les Bains Douches. For Caf Costes in Paris, he envisioned a modern cathedral like decor, "beautiful and melancholic, like the caf at Pragues train station," featuring a grand staircase and memorable restrooms. He also created the Costes chair, a three legged design made of bent plywood with a
